Educational Environmental Center (CEES) - Greece

Established in 2004, the Velvento Environmental Center (CEES) is one of 58 environmental centres in Greece created by the state and one of the largest in the country.

Operating with a team of three employee-teachers, it welcomes around 2,000 students per year to raise awareness about climate change and the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity. The Velvento CEES has several main themes: the circular economy, biodiversity, bioclimatic architecture, water management and waste management. Every year, the CEES organises conferences, seminars, workshops and events for the general public on environmental topics.

As advocates for high-quality, inclusive education, CEES includes vulnerable social groups in its programmes, as well as local community members with limited access to information. Through its environmental programmes, it seeks to build a deep ecological awareness among both younger and older generations.
